CENTRAL STATION - ABOUT US

In Central
Station we take children aged from 2 - 3yrs, we have a 1 adult to 4
children ratio and can have up to 12 children in the room at one time.
All members of staff work together as a team to ensure the children
receive the best possible care and that their individual needs are met.
When your child starts nursery we will provide them with a weekly diary
which will tell you about your child's time at nursery and what they
have enjoyed doing that week. This will be given to you on the last day
of the week that your child attends. They will also have a scrapbook for
some of their craft activities to be put in. The scrap books are kept
here at nursery but you are always welcome to have a look through at
anytime, it can be taken home when it has finished.
We are currently following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum,
we do this by planning a range of different activities which cover the 6
areas of learning which are:-
- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Throughout the nursery we observe the children's progress using a
tracker book which helps us to monitor the children's development. In
the nursery we implement a key person system. Each member of staff has a
small group of children to enable them to form a secure relationship
that will help them to thrive and develop. During the year we hold a few
open mornings so that parents/carers have the opportunity to come and
play and see what we get up to. We hold two parents evenings a year,
this gives you the chance to have a chat about your child's progress
with their key person and to look through some photos of your child's
time at nursery.
When your child starts nursery they will need:
- Slippers
- Wellington boots
- Raincoat
- Sunhat and sun cream in the summer season
- Swimming costume or shorts for the paddling pool
- A nursery bag to keep a spare change of clothes in
- Calpol (to keep in the fridge at nursery)
Please make sure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled.
We make the most of our environment outside and try to get outdoors in
all weathers. The children have a great time in the garden with the wide
range of toys on offer especially on the slides and in the sandpit!
We encourage all the children to participate in the craft activities
such as sticking, colouring, painting etc. We also have a variety of
textures in the texture tray such as corn flour, rice, pasta etc. The
children thoroughly enjoy getting messy.
In Central Station we promote potty training, we use potties or child
size toilets to encourage the children to be independent, and we also
praise the children along the way and use stickers. When you wish to
start potty training your child we recommend you to bring in lots of
spare pants, trousers and socks.
If your child has an afternoon sleep, we provide sleep mats for them to
have a rest on and will sit with them whilst gently rubbing their backs.
We also play soft music in the classroom to create a relaxing
environment. In Central Station we offer quiet play for the children who
do not have a sleep at this time.
Before your child starts we shall have an hour visit with your child and
yourself to have a chat and get to know you and your child better, it
will also give your child the chance to have a little play. The second
visit will be a 2hour leave visit for your child to come and play to get
to know the room and the routine a little bit better.
